Planetary Pioneers invites guests to experience the solar system in a visceral, environmental, and tangible way. In this unique installation experience, guests are free to stroll through the planets as if on a hike through a National Park, unrestricted except for the occasional guidance of the Senior Rangers. Planetary Pioneers dive deep into the beauty, mystery, and science of our solar system through observation, activities, and hands--on interactives.

The information within the exhibition is provided by NASA includes recent discoveries and theories in  the continued search for life within our own solar system. The agency provides continued support through accurate and undated images of the planets, the planets’ surfaces, natural features, and geological makeup, including similar information from satellites orbiting them. Additional scientific content coming from the agencies leading scientists includes exploration of the extreme life on Earth, our planet’s geology, climate, and natural phenomena. Conservation best practices and history of the park system and its culture is being provided through research from the National Park Service.

Designed to support the needs and cost restrictions being felt by science and natural history museums nationwide, the exhibition was developed with the support of NASA and the Columbus science museum, COSI. Highly interactive, Planetary Pioneers brings to museums a blend of summer camp and space exploration, making our neighboring planets more accessible and relevant to us on Earth. Inner projected globes and the Sun sculpture presents the solar system in an environment never seen before in the museum landscape. Plus guests are encouraged to participate in a few camp songs, interplanetary snacks, and a closing campfire.
